Adhesives for manufacturing and laying laminate
Laminate is a relatively resistant yet hard flooring material. Without appropriate sound insulation underneath, it is often perceived as loud when walked on.

Adhesives for manufacturing laminate with integrated footfall sound insulation
Reducing footfall or impact sound is important not only in multistorey buildings, but practically in all standard settings. Not much can be done to change the hard surface of typical laminate flooring, but the underside can be softened, so to say. ‘Integrated footfall sound insulation’ is the term used to describe the effects of lining the underside of laminate with a TPO foam, cork, or other material. An increasingly popular alternative is to add insulation material to the laminate flooring during the manufacturing stage. Hotmelts are the product of choice to ensure high output rates. They bond perfectly to the underside of the laminate strips and cool down quickly without leaving any trace of stickiness. What’s more, some hotmelts contain intelligent ingredients that flow into the composite as an inert mass, which reduces the vibration behavior of the flooring material.

Hydrophobization of laminate flooring edges
Gluing the laminate floor tiles together is ideal to prevent water seeping into the HDF core when the floor is washed. As laminate flooring is usually laid as a floating floor, this is generally the best method to seal the joints over the long-term. The adhesives must be easy to use by professional fitters and DIY users alike. STP-based adhesives are becoming increasingly popular for this purpose. They bond to almost all materials without needing pre-treatment and provide excellent results. They are also very easy to use and, due to their elasticity, can accommodate all kinds of movement on the laminate. Another key aspect is that they not only seal joints permanently, but will not turn brittle.
